Dear elevator, thank you for hauling my butt, and my stuff up and down 14 floors so strongly, and so consistently.
It’s true, you are broken today, but I think you will be working tomorrow. You worked every other day since I came here, even on the day the typhoon came through.
I’m sorry I never noticed you until today. I promise I will appreciate you more from now on.
Thank you also for saying, “Olanmida” …which I always think sounds like you are saying hello! (even though in Korea ‘ola’ means going up, not ‘hola’ hello!)
So rest and feel better tomorrow, and even now when you’re not quite working yet, my gratitude for you, trusty elevator, is going up!
